What Happened To 2D?

I’ve always had a love for 2D sprites. I could not wait for HD fighters that fully matched the quality of anime-style art on which they were based. I basically imagined interactive anime with beautifully detailed characters and animations. Little did I know that gaming was moving towards an emphasis on achieving realism and away from cultivating distinct style.

Do Games Need Multiplayer To Be Successful?

When Dead Space 2 recently announced a multiplayer component to the game, I had to sit down and think, “Is it really necessary?” Dead Space was perfectly fine as a solitary experience and I never did once think it needed a mode where I could play with my friends. But these days more developers have felt that a game must be shipped with some sort of mode where you can interact with other human beings in order for it to be worth something to a consumers’ eyes. I think not.

Quantum Theory Demo Preview

Originally touted as a PlayStation 3 exclusive when it was first announced, Quantum Theory was clearly Tecmo’s answer to Gears of War. It has since gone multiplatform. Vanquish Demo Preview

I had no idea what to expect from Vanquish. On one side it looked like it could’ve been a standard cover shooter with a gimmick tossed in. The demo is finally out and I hopped on immediately to find out which of my two gut feelings were correct.

Lara Croft And The Guardian of Light Impression Review

I never played a single game of the Tomb Raider series. I dismissed it due to the seeming capitalization of the main character as a gaming sex symbol. Though recent iterations of the series have given me the impression that they were moving away from that image, it still wasn’t enough to get me to try it out. That is, until I tried out Lara Croft and The Guardian of Light.
