The Evolution Of Video Games – Infographic
personally loved this infographic by onlineschools. It really showcases how far we’ve come since 1972 in terms of both console and game development.

I started off with the SNES, then jumped to a N64, then a PS2. Sadly, I don’t play console games as much as I used to. I’m more of a PC gamer and almost exclusively play on that. Even though I love playing on the PC, ill never forget the feeling I got when I played Super Mario Bros. and Killer Instinct for the first time on the SNES. What about you guys? What are your console progressions?

That was an interesting read. I’m looking at the console sales and I’m a bit confused. I don’t know when these statistics were taken, but it seems consoles were doing better last generation. Which is odd, seeing as gaming, specifically console gaming seems to be doing better these days. Or so it feels that way. According to the chart, the PS2 has sold 3.5 times better than the 360 and 2 times better than the Wii. I know that this generation 1) Still has way to go; 2) Will still quietly continue after this generation and 3) Has not been around for as long as the last generation, but I still thought the numbers would be more closer to the other.
As for me, here is where I started to where we are (Also, the current status of each one):
SNES (sold)
N64 (sold)
PS1 (packed away)
Gameboy (packed away)
PS2 (broken; packed away)
Gameboy Advanced (packed away)
PSP (active)
PS3 (active)
Wii (sold)
DS (active)
360 (active)
The PS Vita will probably be next. The PS4 after that.

Yeah, I forget the gameboy colour a lot when thinking about my gaming history. Probably because I didn’t play it much.
I have more to add to my first post.
I’m a young gamer (I think?) as I’m only 20 years old. When I was young, a family friend gave us their SNES with about 30 games after they were done with it. I didn’t play many of them.
And then the Playstation and N64 came along. I still wasn’t a serious gamer then, as I owned a little over 10 games for Playstation and about half of that for the N64.
During those 3, I did a bit of PC gaming. Mostly kid games. Except for an RTS game.
Like everyone else I knew, I got a gameboy colour and Pokemon! Pokemon was really all I played for the Gameboy Colour. I also played like 3 others. But I didn’t even finish two of them.
The PS2 was next. I don’t consider the PS2 the console that turned me into a true gamer, but the console that helped me become one.
I wasn’t a fan of the Gameboy advanced, but I got one so I could play Pokemon Ruby.
I’ll finish later

I also ended up playing GTA Advanced.
Up next was the PSP. It was fun.
The PS3 was the very console that made me a true gamer. Which is why the PS3 is my all time favourite console. It’s my go to console. These are not words of a fanboy. I’ve enjoyed my 360 and certain Nintendo consoles/handhelds. The PS3 is just my favourite.
The Wii was next. I was excited with the thought of motion gaming (at the time). I was a bit worried that it would fail, though. And in my opinion, it did. I just couldn’t get use to it. It just didn’t feel right. Some of the bigger Wii titles have cause me some regret over selling my Wii and not giving it more of a chance. But in the end, It just reminds me why I wanted to sell it in the first place. I don’t think I will ever play with any type of motion gaming again.
I purchased the DS for GTA: CW, but ended up getting some other stuff as well.
Last was the 360. I purchased it for the two GTA episodes, but I knew I would end up playing it’s top exclusives!

yeah i got the game boy color as a birthday gift and ended up playing pokemon red and pokemon yellow for a while. I then gave up on that cuz i’ve never been a fan of handheld gaming. I think four individual games on different consoles turned me into a gamer; Halo, Gran turismo 4, counter strike and hitman: blood money. I played hours upon hours on GT4 to try and get the best specs for my car. I then used to go over to a freinds house and play multiplayer halo. what turned me towards pc gaming was playing counter strike at rahats house and hitman: blood money at marks house. After falling in love with the gameplay, i decided pc was the way to go and have been playing on that ever since.

I will buy a ps3 soon though, with a logitech g27 exclusively for gran turismo 5. i will play other titles on it, but gran turismo remains as my top motivation for getting a ps3.

The Pokemon days are amongst my favourites. So many memories.
The PS3 has got a lot of great exclusives. So if you can get comfortable playing on a console again (might be hard for a PC gamer who hasn’t played on one in a while), then I think you’ll enjoy the experience.
